Earlier, the government's nodal cyber security agency had issued a warning to WhatsApp customers to strengthen online hacking, phishing and security-related defenses. Earlier, there were warnings about malware that could spread through a file in MP4 format. Following this, the central agency has ordered the immediate upgrade of WhatsApp.
But the latest study from Checkpoint Research suggests that updating this way doesn't matter. Many major apps, including Facebook, Instagram, and Storm, say it is not safe after the update.
"If arbitrary code is installed on the target system, the hacker can try to snatch the data and run the devices anywhere," warns Computer Emergency Response Team-India (CERT-IN).
