Telecom service providers Vodafone Idea and Airtel are set to increase mobile service charges in the wake of the financial crisis. Vodafone said in a statement that Idea will change tariff rates by December 1.
Last month, the Supreme Court had directed telecom companies, including Vodafone Idea, to pay the dues, recognizing the demand of the telecom department.
Vodafone Idea and Bharti Airtel lost Rs 74,000 crore in the September quarter.
Vodafone Idea has suffered a net loss of Rs 50,921 crore.
Airtel reported a net loss of Rs 23,045 crore.
The company said in a statement that all companies have acknowledged the severe financial constraints in the telecom sector and that a committee of high-level secretaries headed by the cabinet secretary is trying to provide appropriate relief. Vodafone Idea has over 300 million mobile subscribers.
